New Yorkais pur jus Nellie McKay chante depuis son plus jeune âge. Enfermer Nellie McKay dans le style Cabaret serait une erreur car elle n'hésite pas à puiser son inspiration aussi bien dans le Rock que le Rap. Toutes ses influences servent des chansons aussi bien romantiques que malicieuses, chantées avec un sens du rythme et une diction sans faille.
Après un premier double album intitulé Get Away From Me sorti en 2004, elle bataille avec son label d'alors pour sortir un deuxième double album. Comme ces désaccords semblent insolubles, elle sortira finalement Pretty Little Head sur son propre label Hungry Mouse en 2006.
Mais ces complications n'empêchent pas McKay de continuer sa carrière, puisqu'en Mars 2006 elle monte sur les planches à Broadway pour interpréter l'Opéra de Quatre Sous de Brecht au côté d'Alan Cumming et de Cindy Lauper. Les critiques sont mitigées, mais elle recevra quand même le « Theatre World Award » de meilleure première prestation scénique (« Outstanding Debut Performance ») En savoir plus sur Last.fm.
