Informations sur Zoon
Zoon
1. “Zôon” means “animal” in ancient Greek. This is the root for the words “zoology”, “zodiac” and “zoo”. According to Aristoteles, human beings are political animals - “zôon politikon”.
2. “Zoon syndrome” is an acute glans inflammation.
3. Southern US slang: “to zoon”, onomatopoeia which means: “To fly with a humming or buzzing sound”.
4. “Zoon” is the Dutch word for “son”.
The trio Zôon arrived like a U.F.O. in the French musical landscape. Out of the norm, out of fashion and from seemingly out of nowhere, Zôon appeared as a fully-formed and unique voice, crafting a music with heavy sonic contrasts and an asserted ambiguity.
Completely uncompromising in their approach and with little effort at self-restraint, the trio roam at will across a universe of sounds and approaches, deftly shifting between contrasting moods, interweaving density and levity, joy and violence, irony and clear sightedness.
Mixing traditional rock instrumentation with contemporary electronic influences Zôon’s explorative sensibility takes in everything from typical vocals/guitars/bass/drums combinations to sampling, programmed beats, layers of effects and keyboards/synths. The guitars, often heavy with distortion and fuzz, wrap around layers of ethereal sounds and textures, rhythms and detached vocals.
In 2002 Zôon released their first album ‘Banda Sonora Indietronica’, a kind of musical manifesto by way of introduction. Now as the first French band to sign to European label Ocean Music, Zôon release a new album ‘Filaments’, songs from which were aired first during tours of France and Italy throughout 2005.
To date, Zôon has shared stages with bands such as: Zu (I), Destroyer (Ca), Camp BlackFoot (UK), Acid Mothers Temple (J), Burning Heads (F), Dawn Landes (USA) and Katel (FR) amongst many others.
