Décidément, la publicité ne voit plus que par les chanteuses folk. Yael Naim, The Do.... et Simone White. Audi s'est vite approprié Beep Beep Song pour la promo de son modèle R8. On imagine que la chanteuse aurait préféré poser ses mélodies sur un produit plus en accord avec ses valeurs nabbab mais bon, un tel coup de pub n'est pas à refuser pour une artiste indé à petit label et petit budget. " I'm the man" est un album folk dans la pure tradition hippie: une voix somptueuse, une guitare acoustique, un piano délicat, des textes engagés (The american war), des instrumentations légères comme la brise de printemps. Pour l'enregistrement, la jeune new-yorkaise s'est entourée de Marck Nevers, producteur émérite (Lambchop, Calexico, Tindersticks), et de ses musiciens. Le son fleure bon l'enregistrement live avec un joli timbre de voix (qui rappelle parfois Dolores O'Riordan) et une ambiance chaleureuse. Simone White avoue son penchant pour le grunge (Sonic Youth notamment) mais a choisi de s'orienter vers ces rêveries jazzy. Ca lui va si bien.
