Informations sur Lightwave
Lightwave
Founded in 1985, Lightwave travels a singular route on the map of the European music scene. Their music is at the crossroad of dark ambient, minimalist and electroacoustic music, creating its own sonic language. Lightwave always used the most innovative techniques to go beyond the purely experimental, to create and communicate deep sound experiences for adventurous listeners. Keen on playful manipulations of various sound machines, from yesterday's analogic modular synthesizers to tomorrow's virtual instruments, Christoph Harbonnier and Christian Wittmann explore poetic and sensual worlds: sounds are used as colors, shapes, concrete objects and spatial dimensions, and the musicians play with them in a live and interactive way, like a jazz trio or a string quartet. From "Nachtmusik" (Erdenklang, 1990) to "Caryotype"
(Signatures/Harmonia Mundi, 2001), Lightwave's music is somewhere in-between concept and imagination, present and past, geometry and labyrinth, rationality and free wandering of the soul. The music is inspired by darkness, astronomy, Baroque culture and genetics: it could be defined as a possible soundtrack for virtual movies, the listeners being in charge with the images.
These last years, Lightwave realized huge multi-channel and interactive sound installations, for example in the Oberhausen Gasometer (Germany) or in the Choranche subterranean caves (France), and played spectacular live concerts in these unusual places.
Since 1991, Lightwave is involved in an on-going collaboration with LA composer Paul Haslinger as well as with French composer and performer Jacques Derégnaucourt. Paul and Jacques are also involved in "Caryotype" and "Bleu comme une orange, released by "Signatures", a prestigious records series produced by France Musiques, National radio program for classical and contemporary music.
