Few people capture their inner voice, even less realize their true goal as humans. The mass grows, unaware, living of a society in which the basic foundations are exploitation of raw material and depopulation of other species. Fervent people of religion, science or simple living, they wander their whole life in hopes of salvation, believing they march toward a better world. However, disease, suicide, inbreeding, hunger, maltreatment and slavery are still common in almost every area of this better world. The more the population rises, the more these wounds swell. The happiness of a great twenty percent of this mass is at the cost of agony for the rest. Cryptik Howling offers on a plate a new vision of the world, a chalice full of pus that will awaken even the most sceptics. If on this day, you still haven’t committed suicide, we take for granted that you emancipate in the knowledge of human’s ultimate goal. Its kind is a cancer eating the Earth until its imminent end. Take part in the final descent!
Biography (the long one)
It all begins in the late 90’s. The brothers Mongrain Thériault, Dominic (vocals) and Christian (guitars), begin their struggle to create (they didn’t knew at that time) what will become Cryptik Howling. Christian buys his first guitar and Dominic begins screaming. In their garage, a couple of semi motivated youngsters with beer and weed are at the rendezvous. They write a couple songs, play many covers but never have the chance to record anything.
Winter 2002, they meet François Charette (ex-guitarist) and Eve-Lyne Grenier (ex-keyboardist) and then create the name Cryptik Howling. Throughout the year they meet Guy Labranche (ex-drummer) and Réjean Bernier (ex-bassist and founder of Grind Customs (www.facebook.com/grindcustoms)). In the beginning of 2003 they record their first demo called “Epilogue” (what a beautiful name!). The record will never be released.
A couple songs written and a handful of gigs throughout the years 2003 and 2004, but mostly the band as it was back then lives more trouble than progress. The pillars are weak and the band needs restructure. Around the table, the sextet decides to get rid of the past songs, the past concept and to restart anew. The only thing that stays on the table is the name, Cryptik Howling. The members as they were at that time are the founders of the “new” band.
In 2004 Redg leaves the band and is replaced by Emmanuel Audet (bassist and founder of Black Empire). Emmanuel is already working in the surroundings of Cryptik Howling since the late 90’s. The band does more and more gigs and a first full-length is getting prepared.
With Yannick St-Amand (Despised Icon, Beneath the Massacre, Martyr, Augury) on the board Cryptik Howling records “Vitium Intus” at the end of 2005.
2006 sees the release of the long awaited “Vitium Intus” on Cryogenic Records, a couple gigs but also competition between its musicians. In fact, an inner conflict that will last way too long is about to begin. Who is the founder of Cryptik Howling?
In 2007 Cryptik Howling does a mini tour called Abitibi Metal Invasion 1st edition with Katastrof, Archons and Abitabyss in eastern Canada.
2008 witnesses Cryptik Howling on the Abitibi Metal Invasion’s 2nd edition with Descend into Nothingness, Archons and Abitabyss in eastern Canada plus the release of a first music video of the song “Decadent Obedience”. This year marks the departure of François and the beginning of Cryptik Howling’s new era. The composition of the second full-length is complete and they record it throughout the autumn with, once again, the help of Yannick St-Amand.
Samuel Pruneau (guitars, multimedia) joins the band in the early 2009 as a new key element. Cryptik Howling plays a couple gigs with Wolven Ancestry and Will of the Ancients in summer 2009 on the “AND OUT COME THE WOLVES” tour. “Them” is released by Cryogenic Records in September in front of 500 people during the 7th edtition of the EMF in Abitibi-Témiscamingue and has a resounding success. Sadly, Eve-Lyne decides to leave on the same date. Cryptik Howling never say die and tour eastern Canada again, this time alongside Montreal’s Blackguard.
With a few gigs, a music video of the song “Between” and a third album in writing process, 2010 is a year of progression for Cryptik Howling. Even though Guy leaves the formation he is soon replaced by session member Benoît Breton (Obsek) on the drums.
The first half of 2011 sees the recording of Cryptik Howling’s third attempt. This new black metal masterpiece is recorded with Yannick St-Amand at Northern Studio, mixed by Jef Fortin at Badass Studio & mastered at Fascination Street Studios by Jens Bogren. The rest of the year is filled with a couple gigs with Morgue & Korpius plus the conception of everything turning around the release of the next album. Much is kept secret, though the dormant beast will wake to trample the world in the year of the apocalypse. En savoir plus sur Last.fm.
