Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird (né le 11 juillet 1973) est un chanteur et musicien américain.
Né dans l’Illinois, il vit actuellement près de Chicago. Cet auteur-compositeur est violoniste de formation.
Collaborateur chevronné et sollicité, notamment par Neko Case, The Autumn Defense et la Handsome Family, il a commencé véritablement sa carrière commerciale avec sa collaboration avec le groupe Squirrel Nut Zippers et l’album Thrills. Poursuivant avec son groupe Bowl of Fire, Bird offre un folk nourri de multiples influences : ambient, rythme latin, rock, Ravel, et pop.
Bird se lance en solo et sort deux albums, Weather Systems et The Mysterious Production of Eggs distribués par le label Righteous Babe Records dirigé par Ani DiFranco. Les deux albums très aboutis, entre Jeff Buckley et Rufus Wainwright, montrent une progression vers un indie/folk rock de plus difficile à cataloguer. Il revient en 2007 avec Armchair Apocrypha, un album studio produit sous le label Fat Possum Records.
Son originalité est servie par l’utilisation d’instruments comme le violon et le glockenspiel. Enfin lors de ses concerts, il utilise l'oversampling pour jouer par-dessus ses propres boucles, ce qui lui offre un son plus proche du groupe de rock que de l’artiste solo. Entre jazz, folk, rock et soul, il impose un univers riche, sobre et très personnel.
